John F. Cahoon

John Franklin Cahoon, 99, of Swan Quarter, died, Thursday, March 17, 2017 at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.

Born in Hyde County, May 3, 1917, he was the son of the late Henry and Viola McGowan Cahoon.

After graduating high school, he became a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp during the Great Depression. From there he enlisted in to the United States Army where he served his country during World War II. He then returned home to work the family farm until his retirement.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.

Surviving are two nephews, Michael Cahoon and wife Billi Robin and Robert Cahoon, both of Swan Quarter; two nieces, Ella Lou Swindell and husband Arlen of Swan Quarter and Linda C. Garner and husband Randall of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie Mac Cahoon, Henry Cahoon Jr. and Gilbert Cahoon; two half-brothers, Sammy Cahoon and Carlos Cahoon; three nephews, Edmond Cahoon, Wayne Cahoon and Charlie Mac Cahoon.

The family will gather with friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Cahoon, 17654 US Hwy 264, Swan Quarter, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 97, Swan Quarter, NC 27885.
