Students invited to ‘test drive’ BCCC

Beaufort County Community College is giving undecided high school seniors and juniors the opportunity to “test drive” the college.

On March 28, the college is inviting these students to visit the campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students interested in either curriculum or continuing education programs are encouraged to sign up by March 21 for the event.

While on campus, students will attend two classes in their area of interest, take part in our free Spring Fling luncheon and have the opportunity to participate in Spring Fling activities. At the end of their visit, college representatives will discuss students’ plans to further their education and answer any questions they may have.

These high school students will get a feel for what a day in the life of a college student is like.

There will be a DJ on campus during the Spring Fling activities as well as a huge Xbox and Bongo Ball, where students don giant inflatables that allow them to flip and roll. Participants will be entered in a drawing for a free ENO hammock. BCCC students will be eligible for a separate drawing for another ENO hammock, and students who already have hammocks are encouraged to set them up during Spring Fling in the grove between Buildings 5 and 9.

“College can be intimidating for a lot of people, so we hope to pull back the curtain on the experience,” said Michele Mayo, director of recruitment and admissions at BCCC. “Test Drive Our College is a good way to see if community college is a good fit for area high school students.”

Students can visit curriculum classes in the college transfer area or a technical area. They can also visit classes in continuing education programs such as the fire academy. Interested students will fill out a survey to help college staff place them where they will benefit the most. This event will especially benefit students who may not see themselves as college candidates.

Students interested in attending Test Drive Our College should contact their high school counselor, or Michele Mayo at 252-940-6233 or michele.mayo@beaufortccc.edu.
