It’s a different kind of ministry, one that teams feats of strength with the word of Christ — and it’s coming to a church in town.

John Jacobs and his “Next Generation Power Force” will be performing at Harvest Church in Washington, in addition to holding assemblies at Pungo Christian Academy, Terra Ceia Christian School and Bear Grass Charter School in Williamston.

According to Brian Oliver, Harvest Church’s youth pastor, the performance came about in an unexpected and welcome fashion.

“My pastor and I were meeting one week, just kind of talking and praying about how to spread (Christ’s) message throughout the community,” Oliver said. “The Power Force contacted us that week. … This was an opportunity that really presented itself to us.”

Oliver said Harvest Church officials are always looking for ways to reach out to more people and speakers, conferences and performances with a different take on the Word of God have the ability to do that.

“In general, we really have a passion for creatively communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ and to present his timelessness in fresh ways. The message is always the same, but there are many creative ways to present that,” Oliver said. “We’ve never done strength before — it’s a unique way to look at the strength that Christ has and that he can give everyone who follows him.”

John Jacobs has held more than 3,000 crusades in 40 countries, been featured in national magazines and on national television and has a “passion for seeing the lost saved, the brokenhearted healed and the depressed encouraged,” according to his bio.

Oliver said Jacobs and his team have an strong uplifting message, one supplemented by the strength of the Power Force team.

“They do appeal to people of all ages. Kids get a big kick out of seeing them lift things and break stuff, but they really do focus on men,” Oliver said. “I think that kids are looking for positive male role models, and I think this is something they will find when they come to see these guys.”

The Power Force performances are free to the public. Three events will be held at Harvest Church on March 26-27: Sunday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Monday at 7 p.m.

“We encourage families to come out,” Oliver said. “It’s a great thing for fathers and sons to come and experience together.”
