Panthers pounce on retooling Mariners

BEAUFORT — Northside jumped on a rebuilding East Carteret ball club in a 9-3 win on Wednesday. Six different batters had a hit in the victory. Tanner Alligood and Brock Marsh accounted for two runs apiece.

Zach Griffin started on the mound and rolled through six strong innings. He conceded three runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks. He fanned 11 before Tanner Alligood came on to close things out. He struck out two to lock down the win.

Northside scored once in each of the first two frames before tacking on three runs in the top of the third. Trailing 5-0, East Carteret got two back in the bottom of the frame. The Mariners made it a two-run game in the fourth before the Panthers exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth.

Northside, winners of eight of its first nine games, hosts Jones Senior on Friday before a three-game stretch on the road.

Lady Mariners drown Northside

BEAUFORT — Northside took a 2-1 run halfway through the second inning, but East Carteret scored eight runs over the next two frames to run away in a 12-2 win on Wednesday to remain undefeated.

Rachel Lang was tagged for 11 of those runs (nine earned) on 15 hits. Rebekah Williams took over late in the five-inning game and gave up the 12th run.

Savannah Slade went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Northside offense. Two others also had a hit. The Lady Panthers left three on base in the game.

Northside will look to bounce back at home on Friday before playing its next two games on the road.

Kinston handles Lady Seahawks

KINSTON — Kinston scored four times in the first half to cruise to a 5-0 win over Southside on Wednesday. The Lady Seahawks were markedly better on defense in the latter 40 minutes, but couldn’t muster the offense to come back.

Goalkeeper Carleigh Findley made 13 saves in the loss.

Southside will be back in action on Monday when it hosts soon-to-be conference foe Tarboro.
