Warmer days and a burst of color are sure signs that spring has arrived in Beaufort County.

As residents start exercising their green thumbs, the Beaufort County Community College Foundation will show off examples of beautiful and bountiful gardens to inspire other gardeners while raising funds for college students. The tour will take place April 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Gardens on the tour vary from homes in the west and east sides of the Washington Historic District, River Road and Smallwood, to local businesses such as the Coffee Caboose and Elmwood 1820 Bed & Breakfast.

“These gardeners have put a lot of time into creating a beautiful space,” said Serena Sullivan, executive director for the BCCC Foundation. “We are grateful that they are sharing their spring blooms with the public.”

The tour will help raise funds for the BCCC Foundation, which helps provide students with scholarships. Last fall, the foundation held an auction and a golf tournament to raise funds.

During the 2016-2017 academic year, it awarded a total of $86,000 through 137 scholarships.

Self-guided tour tickets are $20 each, or participants can ride on a bus for only an additional $5.

Tickets can be purchased at the BCCC Foundation office in Building 1 on the BCCC campus, at the Coffee Caboose or by calling 252-940-6218.
