A funeral service will be held Monday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 19621 U.S. Highway 64, east of Williamston. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hardison was born in Pitt County in 1923, the daughter of John and Amanda Martin. She moved to Martin County to marry the love of her life, Melburn Hardison, who predeceased her. Through her life she held several different jobs, but mostly she was a “farmer’s wife” and worked closely on the farm with her husband, while being the mother to her three children and a neighborhood of many others. She loved to garden and challenged her neighbors as to who would have the first red tomato of the summer. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting, especially making Christmas ornaments for any visitor that stopped by. And she loved Duke Basketball!
She is survived by her sons, Gene Hardison and wife Frances, of Greensboro, Clif Hardison and wife Shearl, of Williamston, and daughter Gail Yeager of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Lucian and Terry Hardison, Jeanne and Matt Beck, Amy and Paul Emerson, Kristi and Jason Roberson, Misti and Keith McCombs; great-grandchildren Ben Hardison, Katie Hardison, Jessie Hardison, Matthew Beck, Katherine Olivia Beck, Brooks Emerson, Reid Roberson and Tanner McCombs.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Holly Springs Methodist Church, 19621 US 64, Williamston, NC. 27892 or to Martin Memorial Library, 210 N. Smithwick Street, Williamston, NC 27892, or the charity of your choice.
