Washington Harbor District Alliance will be hosting the annual Marine Market on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented by Park Boat Company & Powersports, the market features a wide variety of nautical and marine-related products and services from the region’s top commercial vendors, boat manufacturers and sellers and a “swap meet- style” area for the public to sell their maritime, fishing and watersports wares and crafts.
“If you love life on the water the Marine Market is for you,” said John Butler, WHDA chief operations officer. “Whether you’ve got a garage full of nautical and fishing gear you need to unload, looking to find someone to work on your boat, or want to check out the latest cool boats and products on the market, you’ll find it at the Marine Market.”
Commercial, flea, and food vendor spaces can still be reserved by calling 252-947-1487.
In addition to the commercial, flea-market and food vendors, demonstrations and exhibits from the Historic Port of Washington Museum and U.S. Coast Guard will be featured. From steam engine demonstrations and waterfront historic tours to vessel tours of a handcrafted 24’ wooden Sharpie and USCG 45-foot Fast Response Boat, the Marine Market offers a number of educational experiences for those wanting to learn more about Washington’s rich maritime history.
NCWorks, Beaufort County’s employment resource agency, will be hosting a Marine Job Fair at the Washington-Beaufort Chamber of Commerce featuring boat manufacturers looking for employees. Job experts will be available to assist with resume development and even coordinate onsite interviews with the manufacturers.
“Many of our region’s boat manufacturers are hiring,” said Darone Dancy, NCWorks Career Center Manager. “Beaufort County is known for its local talent, craftsmen and boat-building enterprises. We want to bring together the people with skills to the businesses that need them.”
In addition to the weekly Farmers & Artisans Market and City of Washington “Shred Day,” the Marine Market coincides with the Beaufort County Traditional Music Festival offering bluegrass, country and blues, ole time music, folk and some fine picking for visitors to enjoy at the nearby Arts of the Pamlico Turnage Theatre on West Main Street. Interested musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join the jams. “Pop-up” performances are planned throughout the day at the market.
Local shops and restaurants in Washington’s Harbor District will be open offering visitors the perfect day of eating, shopping and playing.
