Mrs. Ramona Sawyer Cayton, a resident of Edgewater Beach Road, Washington, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at her home.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Ken Hall. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ladies Parlor at the church.
The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Guillaume Seynhaeve, Gilbert Warren, Jr., Christopher Grubb, Charles Moore, Jeffrey Woolard, Dr. Richard Young, John Charles Woolard, Bill Farrior, Maurice Cutler, Googie Singleton, Ron Alligood and I. B. Paul.
Mrs. Cayton was born in Edenton, N.C. She was the daughter of the late James John Sawyer and Irene Albertson Sawyer Wagner. Mrs. Cayton was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former president of the Church Women United, and member of the Methodist Women’s Sarah Cutler Circle. Mrs. Cayton was a former member of the San Souci Book Club, the Washington Garden Club, and past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. She was a former East Carolina cheerleader and member of the Beta Kappa Pi Omega Pi business fraternity. Mrs. Cayton was instrumental in starting the communion service at Ridgewood Manor.
Mrs. Cayton is survived by her son, James Lee Hartsell, of the home; sister, Becky Wagner Ward, of Washington; nieces, Wagner Grubb and husband Christopher and their children Tanner Fields, Drew Fields, Anna Katherine Grubb, Thomas Grubb, all of Greenville; Kristin Warren and husband Gilbert and their children Winston Warren, Eloise Warren, all of Windsor; Lindsey Seynhaeve and husband Guillaume and their children Maxwell Seynhaeve, Angus Seynhaeve, all of Annapolis, Maryland; nephew and god son Wes Ward and wife Blair, of Greenville; and extended family, Dixie Cayton North and husband Robert, of Ramona, California, Richard Cayton North and wife Julie and their children Zachary, Jacob, Elise, all of San Diego, California, Rebecca Farish, Bobby Farish III, Linda Kelly and husband Pat, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Nicole Newman and husband Dwayne and their son, Alden of Colusa, California.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cayton was preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Robert L. Hartsell, Robert Farish, Jr., Cecil B. Cayton; stepfather James Glenn “Choppy” Wagner; and stepsons Bobby Farish and Jimmy Joe Farish.
