Forestry agents and firefighters responded to a woods fire Saturday afternoon on Cherry Run Road, north and west of VOA Road in eastern Beaufort County.

The fire is said to have been started by lightning. At 5:35 p.m., units from Washington and Bunyan fire departments were asked to respond with a tanker and pumper to help ensure the safety of a nearby building.

Crews were able to contain the fire largely due to ditches previously dug to stop the spread of such a blaze.

There were no injuries reported.
