To the Editor:

I’d like to commend the Beaufort County Board of Education for their leadership. After attending two recent meetings, I am impressed by the Board’s ceremonies of award as they recognize student accomplishments in academics, sports and community projects. In particular, the character awards given — this past meeting for persistence — were met with pride by students and their parents. The business meeting was conducted with efficiency, careful thought and professionalism as tough budgeting decisions were discussed and voted upon. Kudos to Dr. Don Phipps, our superintendent, and our amazing school board. Keep up the good work.
