Construction on Bridge Street in Washington is expected to continue for the next three weeks as part of a resurfacing project.
The resurfacing started on Fifth Street in Washington and continued into Chocowinity, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
NCDOT Resident Engineer Cadmus Capehart said the majority of it has been finished, but the last segment of the project includes surfacing the area from the U.S. Highway 17 Business bridge until its intersection with West Fifth Street.
“There is about a week’s worth of pavement left to do. We’ve got to get down the pavement markers on the south side of the river. Then, we have to bring in some asphalt and build the shoulders,” Capehart said.
The possibility of rain halted the progress this week, but weather permitting, Capehart said it should continue on Tuesday.
