The Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department has acquired a used 21-foot Parker fiberglass boat previously owned by the North Carolina Marine Patrol. Purchased from the State of North Carolina as surplus, the boat, 200 HP Mercury outboard motor and trailer will be outfitted with a fire pump and other emergency rescue equipment to be utilized in the bays and waters of the Pamlico Sound. In a partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, personnel will be trained in water rescues.

Fire Chief Jeffrey Stotesberry said, β€œThe department has put a lot of planning and thought into this project. Once we are up and running, it will be the first of its kind in Hyde County. Thanks to our community for its support of our department and for making this project possible!”
