Margaret G. Woolard

Mrs. Margaret Gurganus Woolard, age 79, a resident of Washington, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Brian Center in Windsor.

A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, officiated by Marty Alligood and Mike Caton. Eddie Gurganus, Russ Gurganus, Robert Weathersby, William “Bud” Leary, Ronald David Gurganus and Joshua Clark will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on July 18, 1937, daughter of the late Dave Gurganus and Carrie Dixon Gurganus. On August 31, 1958, she married William John “Billy” Woolard Sr. who preceded her in death on December 15, 2014. She retired in 1990 after working 18 years as a teacher’s assistant at John Cotten Tayloe School. She was a member of the Teacher’s Assistants Association.

Mrs. Woolard was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ. She was an active circle member and taught Sunday School as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by her son: William John “Johnny” Woolard Jr. and his wife, Jackie of Washington; her grandson: Joshua Clark of Washington; her great-granddaughter: Grace Clark of Washington and her brothers: David Gurganus Jr. of Greenville and Russell Gurganus of Washington. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Ray Gurganus, Dewey Gurganus, Joseph Gurganus and Willard Gurganus; and her sisters: Carrie Hudnell, Mary Weathersby and Mabel Gurganus.

The family will receive friends 3:00-4:30 PM prior to the service on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
