A musical comedy featuring a variety of love songs will make its local debut this weekend on the stage of the Turnage Theatre in downtown Washington.
Sponsored by Arts of the Pamlico, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” opens Friday evening and continues through Sunday afternoon.
“It looks at all different aspects of love, all the way from the first date to getting married and growing old together,” said producer Stuart Lannon of the show, which targets adult audiences. Lannon is technical director and facilities manager for the Turnage. This latest show is the fifth local, community endeavor hosted by AOP.
The curtain rises opening night, June 9, at 7 p.m. Curtain time for the June 10 performance is also 7 p.m., while a June 11 matinee is set for 3 p.m.
Lannon directed the Turnage’s four previous community theater shows but he steps aside this time in order to give Casey Scarboro the opportunity to gain some extra experience. Scarboro studies musical theatre, professional acting and political science at East Carolina University.
“I’ve directed ECU productions and when I met Stuart he offered me the chance to do this show,” Scarboro said. “It’s been wonderful. Every night of rehearsals just confirms that directing is what I’d like to do in life.”
Two amateur Washington thespians, Tasheria Keyes and Michelle Pittman, are among the featured cast members. Joining them are three musical theatre/professional acting students from East Carolina University: Olivia Manlove, Drew Wells and Daniel Fetter. Jayson Keeton of Goldsboro is the show’s accompanist.
Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased through the Turnage box office.
“There are 18 total scenes and only two of them are not musical,” Lannon noted. “This show is absolutely hysterical. You will be laughing the entire show.”
