Wilson Jones Griffin PA hangs on for 12U title

After a close sixth inning, Wilson Jones Griffin PA finished its season against the Clark Oil Company-Bath in the 12U Championship with a narrow final score of 4-3.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the second inning that Wilson Jones Griffin PA would strike first on the scoreboard. The eventual winners struck first when catcher Reid Apple sent a pitch soaring into left field past the outfielder for a double. Apple went on to score the first run as he came in on a wild pitch. ΩIt extended the lead an inning later when left fielder Davis Jones reached base on balls, and was hit in by second baseman Connor Edwards shortly after.
Centerfielder Luke Brown later stepped up to bat with two runners on base. He fired a ball to second for a RBI to bring the score to 3-0. In the top of the sixth, the Clark Oil Company-Bath had back-to-back singles followed by consecutive walks to cut the deficit to 3-1. Jarette Spruill then came to the plate, and hit a two-RBI shot to centerfield for to tie the game at three apiece.
After throwing 13 strikeouts, pitcher Matt Craig was relieved by Evan Waters. Waters struck out the final batter to close the top of the inning. The first two batters drew walks in the bottom of the inning.
Then, in an attempt to pick off the runner on first base, the pitcher overthrew the first baseman to bring in Austin Cherry for the Wilson Jones Griffin PA’s fourth and game-winning run.
