FAIRFIELD — Authorities with the State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that a drug overdose caused the deaths of two Hyde County residents.

Ryan Edward Gibbs, 23, and Sarah David Reams, 16, both of Fairfield, passed away June 1. Hyde County officers found the two bodies after responding to a call for a possible drug overdose, according to a press release.

Twenty-five-year-old Tiffaney Webber, of Fairfield, was charged with two counts of murder and is being held without bond at Pamlico Correctional Institution in Bayboro.

Investigators believe the two victims requested and obtained what they thought was cocaine from Webber, but the drug was actually laced with fentanyl, an opiate prescribed for pain that is 10 times stronger than morphine.

The press release stated more arrests are expected.

Hyde County Sheriff Guire Cahoon did not respond to multiple requests for comment on Monday.
