FAIRFIELD — The annual June meeting for Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church was held at the historic church on June 4, with 25 people in attendance.
Moderator J. P. Bush conducted the meeting while church clerk R. S. Spencer Jr. gave the financial reports and reviewed conference minutes of 1917 and 1867 and told of other church historic events and elaborated on beliefs of the Primitive Baptists.
Willene Brinn shared an article on “A Call to Preach,” which was the life story of Elder Albert Cartwright who served the church faithfully for many years until his death in 1892. Brinn also provided an update on burials in the church graveyard, which have occurred since the publication of the Hyde County cemetery book in 1973.
Trustees re-elected were Willene Brinn, Mary Florence Moore, Dewey Sawyer, Peggy Hare, J.P. Bush, Cathy Ireland and R. S. Spencer Jr.
The morning sermon was given by Sheriff Guire Cahoon, who chose “walking” as his topic and shared examples from the Bible and from his personal life. He stressed events in his life, which had occurred to make him the Christian he is today. He and his wife Pam led the congregation in singing “A Closer Walk with Thee.” The church’s traditional singing of “Amazing Grace” was followed by prayer for the bountiful table of food, which awaited the group in the rear of the church.
