CHOCOWINITY — East Beaufort’s 10U all stars, the fourth seed in the double-elimination tournament, edged Wayne County, 10-7, to move on to play top-seed Pitt County Tuesday afternoon.

East Beaufort’s infield gathers during the first inning of its lopsided loss to Pitt County.

Pitt County struck early and often, and owned a decisive pitching advantage, in a 20-1 win over East Beaufort. Samantha Braddy scored the lone run for East Beaufort on a passed ball. Pitt County cycled through its entire lineup in the each of the first two innings. Haven Roebuck got things going by drawing a walk and coming across on a passed ball.

Britni Silver made it 3-0 with a two-RBI triple that scored Emma Kate Reynolds and Shea Jenkins. Silver came in on a base hit from Mia Trueblood. East Beaufort catcher Summer Whitney nabbed a runner trying to steal third base, but her side conceded three more runs before registering the final out — a grounder that second baseman Kenan Woolard deftly fielded.

Krissy Gurkins batted in runs in both of her at-bats in the second. Cheyenne Forbes, Addison Hardee, Reynolds, Jenkins and Silver all put the bat on the ball to bring runners in, too, as Pitt County added 10 more runs to take a 17-0 advantage after two innings.

East Beaufort’s defense began to fall into place in the bottom of the third. A ball fell just out of reach of left fielder Reese Blackman and turned into a two-RBI double by Roebuck. It would have been the third out, but East Beaufort only let one more across before getting out of the inning.
