Two young ladies, Dianna Hyatt and Mary B. Dixon, attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and presented an informative program this week at the Washington (evening) Rotary Club. Both local Rotary clubs sponsor participants each year. RYLA is an intense, fun-filled weekend training program that brings eastern North Carolina 11th-graders together to further develop character, leadership skills and learn about Rotary. It offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders and learn valuable information and career skills. Delegates (students) are selected by local Rotary clubs. The clubs cover the weekend expenses and transport the delegates to and from the 4-H Center. The annual event is held at the Eastern N.C. 4-H Center in Columbia.
