Mr. John Ernest Kirk, age 95, a resident of Loop Road, Pamlico Beach Community, Belhaven, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his home.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July 7, 2017 at Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill, conducted by Rev. Dean Fulford Jr.
The following will serve as pallbearers: James Mercer, Timothy Willis, Chris Mercer, Tommy Kirk, John Willis Kirk and Oral Kirk.
Mr. Kirk was born in Ransomville, N.C. on December 26, 1921. He was the son of the late James Willis Kirk and Callie Caroline Wilkins Kirk. Mr. Kirk served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired commercial fisherman. Mr. Kirk was a member of the Wades Point Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon for over 20 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, tending to his birdhouse and riding his Seadoo.
On May 27, 1950, Mr. Kirk married the former Dorothy Mae Hooten, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Patricia Joyce Kirk Mercer and her husband, James H. Mercer of Pamlico Beach, JoAnne Kirk Willis and her husband, Timothy B. Willis of Manteo; one son, John Willis Kirk and his wife, Donna S. Kirk of Washington; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirk was preceded in death by four brothers, James Sylvester Kirk, David Leroy Kirk, Julian Cecil Kirk and Wesley Albert “Peepsie” Kirk; one sister, Martha Mae Kirk Cordon; and grandson, Cpl. Johnathan Ernest Kirk.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home, 402 Loop Road, Pamlico Beach Community, Belhaven.
