School Nutrition Services at Tyrrell County Schools recently launched its new interactive and user-friendly Student Nutrition Services website at www. TCSCafe.com.

“There you can learn how you can eat right and stay fit,” said Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent. “Student Nutrition Services is educating and inspiring excellence for our students by promoting health and fitness as well as our district’s Wellness Policy.”

Along with information about meal components, menus, meal applications, and online payments, there are interactive nutrition lesson plans, nutrition videos, nutrition games, fitness calculators, fun activities, and healthy recipes; and it is all updated quarterly.

“Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand,” the website states. “The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.”

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at Tyrrell schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on federal dietary guidelines.

“We provide access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.”

“Eating healthy is a concern,” the superintendent pointed out. “The incidence of overweight children, Type II Diabetes and other health concerns are on the rise in America. It is directly related to poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Learn what you should be doing about it on our website or check out parent newsletters, nutritional information, and more on our Mobile App!”

At Tyrrell County Schools it is “Cool to Eat at School,” Dr. Hoffman said, and Nutrition Services are committed to helping students form the healthy habits today that will last a lifetime.
