Newlands Road residence destroyed by fire

The residence of Faye W. Snell, on Newlands Road southwest of Columbia, was totally destroyed by fire on June 3.

Snell, who was away from the house when the fire was reported, said she lost everything in the blaze.

Tyrrell Sheriff Darryl Liverman stated that, at 2:17 p.m. the Regional Communications Center received a 911 call that there was a house on fire at 9573 Newlands Road.

Tyrrell and Creswell Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the call along with the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office, Washington- Tyrrell EMS and the Tyrrell County Fire Marshal. The Red Cross was also contacted, the sheriff said.

There were no injuries, and the house was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but no determination had been made as of June 5, TVFD chief Johnny Spencer said.
