Sheriff releases May report

The average age of all persons arrested by Tyrrell County sheriff’s officers during May was 33.2 years, Sheriff Darryl Liverman’s arrest record shows.

The 60 persons arrested ranged in age from 16 to 73 years.

Sorted by decades, the greatest number, 27, were between 21 and 30 years of age, followed 11 between 31-40 years, nine in the 41-50 group, eight under 21, and five over 50.

One third of the arrests were vehicle related: revoked tag, speeding, no operator’s license, no insurance, etc.

Of the 40 crimes individuals were arrested for in Tyrrell County during May, 17 were 21-30 years of age, eight under 21, eight were 31-40, six were 41-50, and one over age 50.

All of the persons under 21, eight, were arrested for crimes and none for traffic violations. And 17 of the 27 in the 21-30 age group were charged with crimes.

Eight of the 11 in the 31-40 age group were charged with crimes. Six of the nine in the 41-50 group were charged with crimes, but none of those over age 50.

So, 42.5% of persons arrested for crimes during May were in the 21-30 age group, 20% were under 21, 20% were 31-40, 15% were 41-50, and the remaining 2.5% were over age 50.

Twenty-two of the sixty arrests in Tyrrell in May (36.7%) were drug related.

Absent from Tyrrell County in May were any charges for the five major crimes against persons: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and burglary.
