Kathryn “Kathy” Griffin

Kathryn “Kathy” King Moore Griffin, age 66, of Washington, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Kathy was born in Raleigh, NC on November 29, 1950 to the late James Brice Moore Jr. and Ruby King Moore. Kathy earned a B.A. in Education and a B.A. in Psychology. She was a retired educator who loved life and everything that came with it. She was an adamant supporter of Wright Flight and an advocate for shelter animals. Kathryn was a relentless investigator of ideas, a gifted teacher and a staunch supporter of the underdog. She was never afraid to rock the boat, if it needed rocking. Kathy was a loving and devoted mother and friend, was loved by many, and will be horribly missed.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Katy) Moore Griffin and Robert Gorham Griffin Jr.; her sister Mickie Johnston and her husband Frank, with their children, Mary Kathryn Sheppard and husband Scott, their children Parker and Mary Scott, Susan Sumner and husband Thurston, children Ford and Arrington, Frank Johnston and wife Betsy, and soon-to-be child; her brother Mike Moore and his wife Tish, with their children Gretchen Schaffer and husband Tim, children Collin, Sadie and Grant, and Gwyn Thompson and her husband Jeff, child Sawyer; and Robert Gorham Griffin Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, July 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service. In addition, a celebration of Kathy’s life will be held and an announcement will be made at a later date.
