William Samuel Robbins Jr.

William Samuel “Sammy” Robbins Jr., a loving husband, daddy, Papa and friend went to his heavenly home July 28, 2017. Sammy was born June 14, 1947 to the late William Samuel and Edna Robbins of Yeatesville, NC. Surviving is his high school sweetheart, Eunice Tankard Robbins. Together they had two children, Angela Robbins Sawyer (E.T.) and William Samuel Robbins III (Brandi), two grandchildren, Braxton Zane Sawyer and Samantha Faith Sawyer and one step-grandchild, Ashley Danielle Sawyer. Also surviving are his sisters, Janice Robbins Calfee (Robbie) and Martha Robbins, brother-in-law, Bill Tankard, and one niece and nephew.

He attended Bath Christian Church and was known as the “Candy Man” for passing out lifesavers. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Jackson Swamp Hunting Club, Big Red Hunting Club and California Hunting Club. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth, NC in 2006 after 40 years as a supervisor for number 4 and 5 machines. Sammy retired as staff sergeant from the NC National Guard MP 213th after 21 years of service as a cook. He continued his love for cooking at the Coyote Club, Rick’s Man Cave and whenever called upon. Sammy graduated from Pantego High School in 1965 and attended College of the Albemarle. He was a 3rd degree Mason with Masonic Lodge #675.

A celebration of life with military honors and Masonic Rites will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Bath Christian Church with Jim Cullen and Billy Ray Askew officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, July 31, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service.
