Ryan Zimmerman snags another franchise record

Ryan Zimmerman went 5-for-5 with a pair of home runs — his 25th and 26th of the season — as the Washington Nationals thumped the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. The Washington first baseman notched five RBI on the night to surpass Tim Wallach for the most RBI in franchise (Nationals and Expos) history.
Zimmerman was born in Washington, N.C., and has spent his entire career in the nation’s capital. Wednesday marked his first game with five or more runs pushed across since 2010. The two homers mark his second-best season in that regard, and put him within seven of matching his career best set in 2009.
The Nationals’ homegrown product is mere weeks removed from claiming sole possession of the D.C. home run record. This season has been a remarkable resurgence for Zimmerman, who is about a month from turning 33 years old.
