Beaufort County is very proud of Kathleen Slade and her horse, Classy. Kathleen is the daughter of Eric and Joanna Slade, of Bath, and the president of Bath Creek 4-H Club. The Bath 4-H Club is led by Eric Holmes and is hosted by Jim Preston at Bath Creek Stables.
Kathleen competed in the gaming class at the Northeast District Horse Show and won first place in four classes: barrel racing, Texas barrel racing, poles and stakes. This qualified her to compete at the North Carolina State 4-H Horse Show in July at the Hunt Complex in Raleigh. At the state show, she was declared the Junior Grand Champion for North Carolina! Thus, she represented the state at the Southeast Regional Horse Show at Perry, Georgia. Kathleen qualified in the Gaming Class Poles, ranking 12th out of 100 in the nation.
