Flooding, power outages in Washington

Widespread flooding is being reported throughout Washington and surrounding areas, with Jack’s Creek over its banks and neighborhoods adjacent to 15th Street are inundated with rainwater. Washington Police Department reports the flooding is “as usual” during heavy rain events in town. Beaufort County Emergency Management is warning people to turn around rather than drive through floodwaters.
Utilities crews worked to restore power to neighborhoods along River Road and in Washington Park.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until 9 p.m. Wednesday. While thunderstorms with locally heavy downpours have slackened off in the area, flooding is likely to continue due to significant runoff.
