Three arrested on drug charges

Patrol deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop Saturday on a vehicle displaying Georgia tags for speeding and failure to maintain lane control.

During the traffic stop, investigators with the Drug Unit utilized K-9 Elza to do a search around the exterior of the vehicle. K-9 Elza alerted on the vehicle, and a search was conducted.

Investigators found three small, plastic bags containing marijuana in the passenger area of the vehicle and three large bags containing 1,400 grams (3 pounds) of marijuana in the trunk.

Investigators arrested Lashawnna McCotter, 46, of 2709 New Bern Ave. in New Bern; Mario Bargneare, 38, of 1212 Grace St. in New Bern; and Calvin Wilson, 33, of 2800 Moore Ave. in New Bern. They were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
