Paul S. Spencer

Mr. Paul Sterling Spencer, age 90, a resident of Washington, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and Thomas Hamilton.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Members of the Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Spencer was born in Richwood, West Virginia on March 11, 1927. He was the son of the late Oma Otis Spencer and Cora Lavera Robertson Spencer. Mr. Spencer served in the U.S Navy during World War II. He was a retired State Licensed General Contractor. Mr. Spencer has built over 600 houses from Plymouth to the coast. He was a member of the Church Choir and the Bell Choir of the First Baptist Church in Plymouth for several years. Mr. Spencer was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ, the Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department and past member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club and the North Carolina Pecan Growers Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed running, bike riding, fishing, tennis, boating, skiing, gardening and reading.

On September 1, 1984, Mr. Spencer married the former Sandra Welshimer, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Deborah Spencer of Plymouth, Mark Spencer (Joanne) of Franklin, Ind., Sterling Spencer of Plymouth, Carol Riggs (Andy) Winterville, Eugene Wozny (Dana) of Fairfax, VA, Elaine Marinello (Michael) of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Merri Grace Scott (Wes), Caleb Spencer, Megan Newman (Mike), Steven Riggs, Payton Wozny, Bennett Wozny, Sam Marinello, Cole Marinello; five great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Spencer Humphries of Washington; and sister-in-law, Lena Spencer of Greenville, NC; and his first wife, Dorothy Spencer of Plymouth.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by a grandchild, Anna Elizabeth Marinello; sister, Roberta Hays and husband, Jim; brother, Robert Spencer and wife, Joan; and brother, Henry G. Spencer.
