Investigators have made an arrest in the armed robbery of one man and attempted armed robbery of another Monday.
Pernell Razor, 23, of Washington, has been charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of felony breaking and entering and assault on a handicapped person, according to Lt. Jim VanLandingham, head of Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a robbery at around 2 p.m. Monday at the 600 block of Slatestone Road in Washington. Within an hour of the first robbery, a similar one was attempted in Chocowinity on Bright Road, off Possum Track Road near Southside High School, according to Chief Deputy Charlie Rose.
Witnesses gave detailed descriptions of the man who approached the Slatestone Road homeowner in his garage, as well as a gold SUV also seen in the area, Rose said.
“He was dropped off a little bit from the house and approached the subject. … He flashed a weapon and demanded money,” Rose said. “He was seen coming up on foot and leaving on foot, but there was a vehicle that got him out of there.”
Rose said witness accounts from the Bright Road attempted robbery were a close match to the one on Slatestone Road, where Razor allegedly grabbed the homeowner’s arm, demanded money and tried to force him into the house.
“He made his demands and tried to strong-arm the victim into the house,” VanLandingham said. “The victim managed to grab the hand that he had the gun in, and he wound up getting in a position where he was inside the house and in a position where he managed to shut the door and prevent Razor from coming in the house.”
VanLandingham said a Crime Stoppers tip led investigators to Razor.
“We didn’t receive his full name, but we received his Facebook name,” VanLandingham said. “The two victims were able to pick him out of a photo lineup.”
Investigators continue to look for the driver of the SUV.
“There is a possibility there will be another arrest in this case,” VanLandingham said.
