The Down East Seniors Club held its Sept. 27 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Chip Ide led the singing of “God Bless America,” and Rumley gave the invocation. Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history, and Dick Paul provided humor.

Program chairman Paul told about some incidents that happened during his beginning days of television broadcasting in the early 1950s. He worked on the morning show and served as a cameraman, director and lighting tech, among other duties. At that time, all TV broadcasts were live. Once he was told to be the announcer for a five-minute sports show, with just an hour advanced notice. Then he asked other club members to tell of amusing or memorable experiences they had, and several responded.

Rumley reminded the members that quarterly dues should be paid in October, beginning at the second meeting because the treasurer will not be at the first meeting.

Rumley won the 50/50 drawing.
