DEEP RUN — Flip through the record books and it will be tough to find a better Washington offensive performance than the showing it had at South Lenoir on Friday. The Pam Pack amassed almost 600 yards of offense en route to a 67-27 win.
Hykeem Ruffin ran 23 times for 301 yards and five touchdowns, dwarfing the already impressive performances he’s had this year. Ja’quez Ruffin and Michael Clark each scored and combined for an additional 135 yards rushing.
The aerial assault returned for Washington, too. Quarterback Frederick Holscher and Dawson Elks connected for a 50-yard touchdown that gave the Pam Pack a 24-14 lead just over three minutes into the second quarter.
South Lenoir struck first, but wouldn’t be able to keep pace with Washington’s offense. Hykeem Ruffin finished off a six-play, 72-yard drive that gave the Pam Pack a lead it would never relinquish. The Blue Devils pulled within two in the second quarter, but Elks’ catch and a 30-yard rumble by Ruffin put the Pam Pack ahead by 18.
Jaquez Ruffin’s 73-yard eruption with 2:24 left in the first half all but put the game out of reach for South Lenoir. Hykeem Ruffin scored twice more in the second half. Ganeryan Parker and Clark each found the end zone, too.
Washington will be off this coming week before hosting a Kinston team that just suffered its first loss.
