Hoyt Guilford Leggett

Mr. Hoyt Guilford Leggett, age 92, a resident of Leggett Road, Washington, died Saturday, October 14, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Leggett was born October 9, 1925 to the late Jessie Ward Leggett and Allen Hoyt Leggett in Beaufort County, NC. He graduated from Stokes High School in 1942 and served his country in the United States Army. He was a farmer for 45 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Wharton Trinity Methodist Church and attended Tranter’s Creek Church of Christ. Mr. Leggett was a member of the Clark’s Neck Volunteer Fire Department and the Wharton Ruritan Club. On November 6, 1943 he married the love of his life, the former Mattie Parker who preceded him in death in 2008. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one brother, John Gray Leggett and a son-in-law, William Harvey Cratch. Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Leggett Cratch of Washington; two sons: Hoyt Guilford Leggett Jr. (Pam) of Wilson, NC, and Danny Hines Leggett (Debby) of Washington; three sisters: Doris Leggett Krahenbill of Gordonsville, VA, Barbara Leggett Whitehurst of Rocky Mount, NC and Sandra Leggett Daughtridge of Tarboro, NC; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in the chapel at Hillside Funeral Service with Reverend Phillip Paul and Reverend Levi Murray officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville, NC, with the following serving as pallbearers: William Cratch Jr., Will Cratch III, Zane Woolard, Dawson Woolard, Tim Dezura and Justin T. Leggett. Honorary pallbearers will be: Braxton Davis Honeycutt, Murphy Woolard and Richard Lessner. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at his home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association or Tranter’s Creek Church of Christ. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 East, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Leggett family.
