Robert Gerald Jones Sr., 87, passed away on the morning of October 17th, 2017 at his home in Williamston, NC, surrounded by love and in the arms of his family. He was born on April 25, 1930 and grew up known as Bobby in the town of Edward, NC. He was the younger brother of his beloved Jessie Macon and the son of Heber and Katie Jones, and grew up in his father’s General Store and Texaco station, central in so many ways to the Edward community.

Bob graduated from Aurora High School and completed his undergraduate degree from Atlantic Christian College, in addition to a Master’s in Education from East Carolina University and additional post-graduate works at UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University.

His extensive education and coaching career spanned over 60 years, starting in Pantego, then Plymouth, Williamston and finally in Greenville, retiring at his revered Rose High School in 1983.

He then returned to his mission as Evening Director at Martin Community College until a second retirement in 2013.

He met his beloved wife of 62 years, Jessie Marie Corey in 1954. They were blessed with three sons, Robby Jones (deceased), Gary Jones (Sandy) of Greenville, NC, and Michael Jones (Cindy) of Zebulon, NC.

Bob leaves behind three grandchildren, Chis Jones (Katie) of Richmond, Va., Caroline Fennessy (Travis) of Wake Forest, NC, and Emily Jones of Chapel Hill. In addition, a great-granddaughter is expected in February.

Bob had many talents in addition to teaching and coaching. He truly loved movies, and music was definitely his favorite. He enjoyed evenings on the deck at his vacation home at Atlantic Beach listening to his favorite Band of Oz. Bob was an avid bargain hunter and loved the art of gift giving.

In addition to shopping, Bob dearly loved animals and even grand-dogs. He loved his very special canine family, Bert and J.J., who predecease him.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at 1 pm at the First Christian Church of Williamston. Visitation and reception follows. Arrangements are by Biggs Funeral Home of Williamston.

Memorials may be given in remembrance to First Christian Church of Williamston, or dedicated Animal Rescue Groups of your choice.

The family expresses the sincerest thanks and gratitude for Dr. Steven Manning and his team, and his home caregivers: Barbara, Peggy, Gwen, Ci-Ci and others.
