CHOCOWINITY — A week after having its undefeated streak snapped by Belhaven, the Chocowinity 10U football team hung on for a 14-8 win over Riverside on Saturday to finish the regular season with a win.

All it took was pair of second-quarter touchdown by the Indians to seal the deal. They recovered a fumble on their own 30-yard line early in the quarter and proceeded to march the other way. Michael Warren’s 16-yard pickup put Chocowinity inside Riverside’s 10, allowing Gabe Kassnove to scoot in for the first touchdown a few plays later.

Chocowinity’s defense held the Knights as they tried to answer before halftime. The Indians forced a punt to take over at their 20 with less than a minute to go. Riverside’s defense buckled down to back up the home side, but Daylan Hardy ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run as time expired.

It put the Indians ahead, 14-0, going into halftime.

Riverside’s Anthony Killiebrew looks for running room outside, but is chased down by Indian defenders Josh Green and Chris Jones.

The Indians threatened again in the second half. They received the opening kickoff, which Hardy was able to carry all the way to the red zone. Riverside made the stop, though, by backing Chocowinity and forcing a fourth-and-goal from the Knights’ 14.

Riverside’s offense needed to put together a scoring drive. The Knights needed to cover nearly 70 yards to do so. Kel’Javious Moore hauled in a pass to prevent them from going three-and-out, then made the touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter to cap off the series.

Jaquavion Sheppard’s 2-point conversion put the Knights within four, 14-8. A touchdown would tie the game and a conversion would win it, but Riverside’s defense needed a stop first.

The Knights kept Chocowinity from the end zone by making a stop on fourth-and-8, but were left with less than a minute to score. Riverside made it across midfield before running out of time.
