ROBERSONVILLE — Southside and South Creek went blow-for-blow Friday. Jaylen Short punched in a touchdown about halfway through the fourth quarter for the decisive score in a 29-24 win in Southside’s regular-season finale.

Cougar standout Jahkene Clark accounted for four touchdowns in the win. He ran in three himself and threw for one more.

Clark drew first blood with a 30-yard touchdown run just over halfway through the first quarter. It gave the hosting Cougars an 8-0 lead aver Short ran in for the 2-point conversion. Trajan Rhome answered back with a 3-yard scamper five minutes later, cutting Southside’s deficit to 8-6.

Clark scored from 7 yards out to extend South Creek’s lead in the second quarter. Southside hoped to have cut South Creek’s lead to two by halftime after Will Warren rolled out and nailed Taiwan Ebron for a 37-yard score with 52 seconds left before the intermission.

However, Clark and Darrius Smith linked up for a 6-yard touchdown to extend their advantage to 21-12 at halftime.

Rhome and Jonquil Haywood each found pay dirt in the third quarter to give Southside its first lead, 24-21, but South Creek was able to answer the call.

The Seahawks and Cougars combined for five turnovers.

Rhome led Southside with 60 yards rushing and two scores on 13 carries. Hayden Mayo added 56 more. The Seahawks’ defense struggled to contain Short as he racked up 130 yards on the ground. Freshman Cougar receiver Xavier Williams had three receptions for 70 yards.

Quinton Vick, Teddy Minor and David Vines each notched eight tackles in the loss, which marks Southside’s second in a row to end the season. The Seahawks are off next week.
