L. Phillip Gray

Lloyd “Phillip” Gray, age 59, a resident of Washington, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 3, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Havens Gardens and will be officiated by Richard Knox.

Mr. Gray was born in Beaufort County on October 26, 1958, to Lloyd Nathan Gray and Margaret Brown Brooks Gray. On May 18, 2002, he married Mary Elizabeth Knox who survives. Mr. Gray enjoyed playing Monopoly, visiting the mountains of both North Carolina and Tennessee, taking nature walks, canoeing, river rafting, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Knox Gray of the home; three children, Victoria Ashley Zinger and husband Thomas of Raleigh, Elizabeth Allison Gray of Greenville, Lloyd Phillip Gray II of New Bern; two stepchildren, April Thompson Cooper and husband Vince, David Matthew Thompson, both of Robersonville; sixteen grandchildren; his mother, Margaret Brooks Gray; and his sister, Donna Kay Younker of New York.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Nathan Gray and a brother, Steve Smith.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
