Atha P. Stokes

Mrs. Atha Gray Parker Stokes, age 88, a resident of Washington, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at River Trace Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Paul Funeral

Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Carnie Hedgepeth. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. George Strickland,

Josh Kordan, Samuel Strickland, Ryan Stokes, Shane Stokes and Jerry Campbell will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Stokes was born in Wayne County on February 9, 1929 to the late Carl Franklin Parker Sr. and Vennie Mae Pollard Parker. On November 29, 1946, she married John David Stokes Sr. who preceded her in death on August 15, 1960.

She was a caregiver, sitting with the elderly in their time of need. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Bell Arthur Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Stokes Jr. of Bell Arthur and his significant other, Dottie Black of Belhaven, George C. Stokes and wife Debbie of Sunset Beach; two daughters, Von Cornelius of Farmville, Sheila Kay Stokes of Chocowinity; five grandchildren, Emily Strickland, Katie Strickland, Mary Johnna Kordan, Ryan Stokes, Shane Stokes; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Parker and two sisters, Rosa Lee Crisp and Dorothy Linsay.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
