Washington wrestling stands tall at Corinth Holders
WENDELL — Washington headed a bit west on Wednesday to see how it stacked up against some competition outside of the immediate area. The Pam Pack was one of three undefeated teams at the quad. The fourth had only lost one match.
It handled Leesville Road, 48-28, and Clayton, 68-12. The match with the hosting Pirates came down to the wire in every sense. The Pam Pack came out with a 35-34 win after a series of tiebreakers. The match ended up being decided by which team scored first in the most matches.
Brodie Moore, Messiah Levy, Gavin Woolard, Carson Asby, Henry Jennings, Austin Koonce and Drew Ferguson each won matches against Corinth Holders.
Washington looks to keep the ball rolling Saturday at North Pitt in the annual Pierce Davis Tournament.
Pam Pack swimmers take second behind Conley
Washington hosted Conley and Eastern Wayne for a meet Wednesday. Both Pam Pack groups finished second behind the Vikings. Conley’s boys (135 points) narrowly edged out Washington’s (129) while the Lady Vikings won going away with 169 points.
The boys got off to a hot start when the team of Tristan Pake, Patrick Lovenberg, Taylor Myers and Hodges Tubaugh took first in the 200-yard medley relay. Braeden Beach tied Turner Cook for first in the 50-yard freestyle. Pake won the 100-yard backstroke and Lovenberg finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Lady Pack didn’t have any first-place finishes, but still had a solid all-around effort.
Washington’s next meet will be at home on Dec. 9. It will host Christ Covenant and Jacksonville.
