Arthur Vander Aa

Mr. Arthur Vander Aa, age 91, a resident of Pantego, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church, officiated by Pastor Garry Roest. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery. Mr. Vander Aa’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour on Sunday at the church and other times at the home.

Mr. Vander Aa was born in South Holland, Cooke County, Illinois, on Feb. 20, 1926, son of the late Peter Vander Aa, Sr. and the late Pearl DeWaard Vander Aa. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On April 9, 1954, he married the love of his life, the former Grace Wilma DeRuiter. After moving to eastern North Carolina, he provided for his family as a dairy farmer. As a member of Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church, his priorities were his God, his family and his community.

Surviving along with his wife, Grace, of the home, are three daughters, Cindy Van Dyke (Alan), of Chicago, Illinois, Jenny Febus (Dave) of Belhaven and Pam Kirkman (Barry) of Camden; a brother, Peter Vander Aa (Carol); nine grandchildren, Heather Titus-Van Dyke, Davie Febus, Barry Van Dyke, B.J. Kirkman, Jackson Van Dyke, Dan Febus, Melanie Kirkman, Arthur Vander Aa, III and Pearl Vander Aa; 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Vander Aa was predeceased along with his parents by his son, Arthur “Art” Vander Aa; a daughter-in-law, Terry Rose Vander Aa; a brother, John Van Der Aa and a sister-in-law, Jennie Van Der Aa.
