KEVIN SAWYER has filed for sheriff of Tyrrell County. He is a sergeant with the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office and has been in law enforcement since 1992 with experience as a state probation/parole officer and later as a sheriff’s deputy/narcotics officer in Washington County. Sawyer holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University. The Democratic primary election is set for May 8. (contributed photo)
