“Be charming if you can, witty if you must, but always have grace.”

These are the words printed on Carla Jennette’s business cards. While these are admirable qualities for a distinguished southern lady, charming, smart and stylish are appropriate adjectives to describe the selection of clothing, jewelry and accessories available at Southern Grace Boutique, one of the newest storefronts in downtown Washington.

When Jennette decided to take the plunge to become an independent business owner, she left behind a 20-year career in medical administration to pursue her dream of owning a boutique. Admittedly burned out in her old career, Jennette has found new energy building a business of her own.

“I’d always wanted to own my own business, and it was always kind of my lifelong dream to do something like this,” Jennette said.

Assisted by her daughters at the store on the weekends, Jennette says her entire family has rallied behind her in the new endeavor.

“I knew my daughters would love it, and they have,” Jennette said. “My whole family, my son-in-laws and everybody have kind of jumped in and painted, so everybody has had blood, sweat and tears.”

With a variety of clothing styles, in sizes ranging from small to 3XL, as well as a range of jewelry, snappy shoes and sharp accessories, SGB has something for everyone. Best of all, the items at SGB are not only classy and quality, but also affordable. Jennette says that one of the greatest selling points of her businesses is the price point.

“I’ve promised not to sell anything in the store for more than $60,” Jennette said,

SGB first opened in November 2017 on the second floor of OASIS Hair Salon and Spa. After moving to its new location in the Suites at 158 on Main Street, Jennette says she has seen a marked increase in foot traffic.

“I needed storefront,” Jennette said.

Adding a few coats of paint and some personal touches, the store opened at its new location on Dec. 31. With a successful soft opening behind it, the boutique celebrated its official grand opening over the weekend with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on Friday and festivities throughout the day on Saturday.

Southern Grace Boutique is located at 158 on W. Main Street in Washington and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. For more information on the Boutique call 252-945-2982 or click to their Facebook page @southgracewash.
