“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade,” Charles Dickens once wrote.

The first full week of March presents a variety of events that will appeal to large, broad group of patrons. The 2018 Student Art Show held its opening reception March 7. This exhibition spotlights works from students within the Beaufort County School system. The selected theme for this year was “America.”

AOP welcomes “Dueling Pianos” back tonight. AOP pairs with the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce to bring this high-energy, fantastic show to stage. Limited tickets are still available, $20 cash and $22 through Paypal or with a credit card.

Saturday will be a busy day at the beautiful historic Turnage Theatre. Art Market starts the day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Downeast Regional Spelling Bee, hosted by the Washington Daily News, at 1 p.m. The spelling bee will be followed by the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association’s Youth Talent Show. All events on Saturday are free to attend.

Looking to next week, AOP will have even more exciting programming to offer patrons. At 7:30 p.m. on March 15, “A Little Chaos” will be shown. Tickets are $5 at the door or $7 via credit card. All proceeds from this film will benefit healing gardens for Rose Haven, an integrated home for female veterans being built by Pamlico Rose Institute for Sustainable Communities.

March 16, Steve Creech and Friends will play some wonderful blues and jazz before the magical film by Jim Henson, “The Dark Crystal,” is shown on the big screen at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the movie will be $5/$7 at the door.

March 17 at 2 p.m., come enjoy Broadway on the Big Screen as AOP presents “Riverdance” on St. Patrick’s Day. This is presented for free with a suggested $5 donation.

Finally, Alice comes to life on stage as students from the East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance bring “Alice in Wonderland” to the Turnage stage. The playwright of this adaptation, James Armstrong, will attend this performance at 2 p.m. on March 18.

Arts of the Pamlico is a state-designated arts council and community art space dedicated to bringing diverse artistic projects to eastern North Carolina. AOP provides access to visual arts, theater, music performances, dance and films offered every month.
