Mrs. Mary Jo O’Merry Tyson Williams, age 77, a resident of Washington and a former resident of the Old Ford community, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Jack Holloman and Rev. Gary Thompson. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Williams was born in Beaufort County on July 29, 1940, to the late Charles and Laura Mae Woolard O’Merry. She was a 1958 graduate of Old Ford High School. She married David Earl Tyson, who preceded her in death in 1957, then married Bennie Walker Williams, who preceded her in 2005. She was known as the “Avon Lady” and was a member of Snowd Branch Church of God for 30 years.

Survivors include one son, David Tyson and wife Faith, of Washington; one daughter, Mary Susie Tyson Haddock and husband Roland, of Washington; three brothers, Marvin Silverthorne and wife Mary “Deloris,” of Greenville, Turner Silverthorne and wife Sandy, of Washington, Johnny Silverthorne and special friend Gracie Cox, of Washington; goddaughter and lifelong friend, Brenda W. Strickland; godchild and nephew, Sam Silverthorne III; five grandchildren, Junior Haddock, Mike Ball, James Ball, David Tyson III, Agnes Waters; six great-grandchildren, Ashton Ball, Alexis Ball, Courtney Hudnell, Ryan Hudnell, Joe Joe Edwards, Mariah Waters; one niece, several nephews and close cousin, Aon Melvin. In addition to her husbands and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charlie O’Merry, and her sister, Annie Mae O’Merry.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday March 9, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Mary Susie Haddock, 193 Deer Track Drive, Washington.
