On a nice day, visit Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and take a walk on Scuppernong River Interpretive Boardwalk located behind the visitor center in Columbia. On a rainy day go inside Walter B. Jones Center for the Sounds and view the exhibits and gift shop. They’re both learning experiences and a good time too! Currently, visitor center hours are Thursday thru Sunday 9 am to 4 pm. Staffing is by volunteers and might vary. 252-796-3004.
