Just as the signs of spring are a welcome sight, so too are the UNC-Chapel Hill students.
Over the last 10 years, different groups of UNC students have spent their spring break on a public service trip in Tyrrell County.
One of the many places they visit during their stay is the Tyrrell County Senior Adult Activity Center. Local older residents always look forward to the students’ visit. They are able to participate in falls risk assessments and are given tips and exercises to help them lesson their risks. The students will even do a home visit upon request to determine falls risk factors in the home.
While we may have to wait a year for the next visit, the positive impact they leave behind will sustain us until then.
