At 6:48 PM on Mar. 28 the Regional Emergency 911 Communications Center dispatched Washington-Tyrrell EMS to 2063 Levels Road after receiving a report that a person had fallen, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported.

Upon arrival EMS found that Rene A. Deltgen, 38, a resident at the address, was suffering from a gunshot wound. Tyrrell County deputies responded to the scene.

Deltgen was flown by East Care Air Ambulance to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The investigation by the Sheriff’s Office determined that the gunshot wound Deltgen received was self-inflicted, the sheriff stated.
