A mother’s love

Mother of the Year… is it the woman who keeps an orderly and beautiful home, gracefully entertaining guests and looking after the children? Is it the wine-swilling mom who laughs loudly about never getting that title?
Is it the tough lady who juggles work, home, kids and a thousand other items every day? Perhaps it’s the single mother, living with her children in a car, doing the best she can to provide for her family.
While no one mother fits any one particular mold, they all have one thing in common: they love their children, and most would go to extraordinary lengths to take care of their families.
With Mother’s Day little more than two weeks away (make a note!), the Washington Daily News is seeking the top mom in Beaufort County to feature in our May 12 edition. Does your mom have what it takes to be crowned mother of the year?
We want to hear about her. We want to know about the ones who sacrifice. We want to learn the stories about the ones who work with little recognition, day in and day out, to keep their families going.
From the prim and proper homemakers of the 1950s and 60s to the power moms of today, mothers have always been heroines to their children. So we ask our readers…what makes your mom special?
Tell us in a letter. Submissions can be sent to news@thewashingtondailynews.com through May 4, and the winner will be contacted to schedule an interview the following week. She may even get a bouquet of flowers from our staff.
From the WDN to your family, we take this opportunity to wish you each a happy Mother’s Day. Take the time to call and visit your mom, and be sure to remember the holiday on May 13. She deserves a day to feel special.
