Pocosin Lakes Refuge

Yellow-bellied Sliders (Trachemys scripta) are turtles commonly seen on national wildlife refuges in northeastern North Carolina, including Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Usually seen basking on logs and shorelines of ponds and ditches,Yellow-bellied Sliders grow up to a length of 12 inches. Females nest in the late spring or early summer, laying 4 to 12 eggs. Juvenile sliders feed on aquatic insects and adults eat vegetation.
